Govt. of the Punjab, Finance Department vide its letter No.FD-SR-I/3-1/2019, dated 13th September, 2019 has issued clarification regarding Recovery of Pension / Gratuity From the Families of Govt. Servants who Die while in Service, which is as under:-
I am directed to state that a question has arisen as to whether the procedure for recovery of over payment in cases of compulsory retired civil servants who are later reinstated in service as prescribed vide letter No.FD.SR-III/ 4-13/84 dated 24.03.1987 can be adopted in cases of bereaved families of deceased civil servants who die while in service and have drawn all pensionary benefits and later on entitled for the package circulated vide No.FD.SR.1/3-10/2004 dated 15.08.2017 and therefore want to deposit the already drawn pensionary benefits or otherwise.
The case has been examined and the Competent Authority i.e. Chief Minister, Punjab has been pleased to allow to follow the method of recovery of such pensionary benefits, as enunciated in Finance Department’s letter bearing No.FD- SR-II1/4-13/84 dated 24.03.1987 (copy enclosed), applicable in cases of those bereaved families who drew full pensionary benefits after in-service death of a civil servant, in order to enable them to draw financial assistance in accordance with the provisions of Finance Department’s letter No.FD.SR.1/3-10/2004 dated 15.08.2017 (Copy enclosed).
